In 1977, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) was established in Bangladesh to copy the RE program that had been established earlier in the U.S. REB considered using spun concrete poles, tubular steel and wood poles. The wood poles were selected, providing that assurances could be made that they would last at least 20 years. Some modification were made in the REA specification and the supply began.
