Effect of the Additives on Thermal Properties of High-temperature Honeycomb Ceramic Regenerator

In order to improve the material's thermal property, some additives such as MgO, TiO_2, SiC, were used in the alumina ceramic. The results show the introduction of the additives can improve the sintering property of the alumina ceramic and decrease the thermal expansion coefficient of materials in different extent and can increase the alumina ceramic's thermal shock resistance. Among the four kinds of additives, the SiC has the best effect on the increasing of the material's thermal shock resistance and it can make the material's heat shock times over 40, which the samples are taken out from the 1100°C burner quickly and thrown into the 10°C water immediately. The mineral composition and microstructure's effects on the thermal property of the alumina ceramic were studied by the XRD, SEM and energy spectrum analysis.
