This paper includes a Case History of successful polyester film shear slitting tests by DuPont Teijin in the United Kingdom, a description of how servo-motors operation, attainable set-up accuracy levels, the potential for SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and what a "Roll Slitting Profile" could be. Slitting Case History Dave Wager of DuPont Teijin's Global Process Development Group in Middlesbrough, Cleveland, United Kingdom led a team of DuPont engineers and operators who worked with major winder and slitting equipment manufacturers to develop a Slitter Rewind that could "meet the increasing high quality requirements for slit edge and surface cleanliness of Polyester films". This included the elimination of slitting stringers, dust and a high edge profile on 350mm (11") diameter (currently 800mm (31") finished polyester film rolls with a thickness range of 12 microns to 350 microns. The polyester webs varied from coated, clear, soft to brittle. Dave presented a paper at the AWEB-06 Conference, "An Example of Process Optimisation -Shear Slitting Polyester Films", which described in detail the steps that lead to a successful slitting project.
