Automotive has become one of the most stringent markets for the semiconductor industry: very "cheap" products manufactured with leading-edge technologies while meeting the highest quality and reliability levels are required. Automotive modules, populated with an increasing number of components implementing a wide range of applications, have to deal with higher and higher currents with more and more 'intelligence' and diagnostics. The ability to implement smaller, smarter, higher current density rated devices, without impacting on quality and reliability (on the contrary, vastly improving them), results in a significant enhancement for Automotive Applications. The new M05 family of devices is able to work at much higher power density then previous generation, because of reduced die size, while improving at the same time their robustness. This has been achieved by a patented control strategy. To fully explore the advanced of this new technology revision new and more efficient packages have been designed. At the same time the new control strategy has reduced the EM disturbances caused by the devices switching edges. This makes the dimming and applications using PWM compatible with the most stringent EMC specifications.
