The B(E2:O_1~+ → 2_1~+) (B(E2)↑) transition probability of even-even nuclei from 56Ni up to 82Se are confronted with curves obtained in a approximation to the generalized seniority and shown to fit in with a neutron sub-shell closure at N=38 and a scenario involving p-n interaction.
