Laboratory tests on coating winter oilseed rape seeds against slugs

The most dangerous slugs species in Poland are the field slug (Deroceras reticulatum) and the Iberian slug (Arion lusitanicus). Oilseed rape plants are most at risk from slug damage at the seedling stage (GS 07-10 BBCH), when slugs feeding immediatelyafter plant emergence kill and reduce plant stands. The best method of protecting such young plants against pests is seed treatment (coating), which for oilseed rape may be an alternative method to using slug pellets (baits). From 1984, studies were done on the use of seed treatments to protect winter oilseed rape plants from slug attack, and the present paper describes laboratory tests.
