The Use of a Compact Piston Prover as Reference Standard for the Calibration of Bulk Flow Meters

Bulk flow meters are used to assess the quantity of fuels and chemicals being traded and the accuracy thereof has a major impact on the financial results of a typical oil company. Liquid Automation Systems recently introduced a compact piston prover that automates and simplifies the calibration operation. This is the first prover of its type approved by the South African Bureau of Standards as a reference standard for bulk flow meter calibration. This paper compares the compact piston prover with traditional methods of calibration. It further covers the calibration methods for the compact piston prover as a reference standard.
