Experience from Field Calibration of Flow-Meters with a Mobile Piston Prover

The technical report describes new transportable measuring equipment developed at the National Measurement Laboratory for Volume Metrology, Boras, and intended to enable on-site calibration of large flowmeters. Measurement occurs when a hydraulic valve closes, thus forcing the flow to move a piston forward. On the piston are mounted detectors, with the help of which the authors can measure the time it takes for the piston to move through the cylinder. Knowing the cylinder volume (250 1) it is then possible to calculate the real flow rate. In series with the compact prover is a master meter. This is used for doublechecking or as a volume meter.
