This paper investigates the interaction between different types of alumina tri-hydrate (ATH), ATH loading levels, and with varying glass fiber content in fire retardant laminates. The laminates used a standard halo-genated orthophthalic resin (FR resin). Construction of laminates was a combination of hand-lay-up and vacuum bag in order to maximize the glass fiber content on each laminate. Types of testing performed on laminates were mechanical and flame tests. The mechanical property tests of interest were ASTM D 790-Flexural and ASTM D 638-Tensile. The flame tests of interest were ASTM D 2863-Limiting Oxygen Index and ASTM E 662-Smoke Generation.
