Smart Transportation in Portland, Oregon

This is going to be quite a challenge. Robert Grow's presentation is probably typical for Western states. Portland is like a little piece of Israel in the West because we are very tolerant of regulation in Oregon. Our statewide planning program dates back to 1973. Our approach commonly comes on the regulatory side; even though we have used a lot of other tools in our planning, it is possible for us to have a government lead the kind of project that Robert was talking about for Utah. This presentation is going to focus on how we have used public-sector planning to achieve goals similar to Utah's and on how we are using federal funding to implement those plans for our region.
