Stimuli responsive polymers are polymers that display a change n their physical and/or chemical nature in response to external stimuli, such as light , pH, temperature or electric field . The application of hin films of such polymers to a surface can create “smart” surfaces hat can control how an external medium interacts with a solid surface and are useful for applications such as microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) or sensors. These applications generally use substrates that differ both geometrically and/or chemically from the ideal” substrates such as glass or silicon wafers generally used for surface modification.
