The friction-reducing properties of organic polymers having multiple-point adsorption sites were investigated by using several kinds of polymethacrylate (PMA)-based additives having different functional groups. From the experimental results, the friction characteristics of the PMA-based additives possibly depend not only on the change of the viscosity with the temperature but also on some kind of factors. Single-point adsorptive low molecular compounds showed a rapid increase in friction coefficient at elevated temperature whereas multi-point adsorptive compounds prevented friction coefficients from rapidly increasing. This suggested that the PMA-based additives remained on the friction surface under high temperature condition where the single-adsorption of the low molecular compounds cannot be maintained.
