Quantifying dynamic stability of the human locomotor system is an essential prerequisite for understanding the neuromuscular control of locomotion. An important factor influencing stability is movement speed. However, until to day, no study has been performed investigating the speed dependance of the dynamic stability of human walking for a larger spectrum of speeds. The present study uses maximum finite time Lyapunov exponents for investigating this influence in a group of ten healthy subjects during treadmill walking.
