摘要

Nanomaterials are receiving a lot of attention due to the ability to tailor properties for specific applications. The presentation will discuss the application of nanoparticles and nanostructured films synthesized by gas phase routes for a variety of environmental and energy technologies. Three specific areas will be covered: (i) the capture of toxic metal emissions from combustion systems, (ii) the use of nanostructured films for photo-splitting of water for hydrogen production and (iii) the preparation of nanomaterials for biological studies to determine toxicity. The latter is also an essential task that needs to be researched to ensure the eventual safety of nanotechnologies.
