The forest has shaped Canadian history, culture and society, not to mention our environment and our economy. The time has come to rethink the way we have developed science and policy as applied to the forest, in order to effectively meet existing andemerging challenges. Further, we must rethink our entire approach to forest management practices. This assertion can be illustrated by recent incidents of wildfire and the effect our management practices are having on habitat. We must take a more holistic, co-operative approach if we are truly going to manage the forest for all the values we place on it today, and in the future.
