The Effect of Computer Self-efficacy and Training on Intention to Use ERP

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems have been widely adopted by firms to integrate its internal and external resources to meet the need of time to market, and thus to sustain it's competitive advantage. However, the success of ERP implementation depends mainly on employee's acceptance of the technology. Based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), this research examines key drivers of employees' intention to use ERP systems. Computer self-efficacy and training were derived as exogenous variable to test user's intention to use ERP systems. A survey of 202 end-users from 10 Taiwanese firms found strong support for the conceptual model. In accordance with TAM, attitude and perceived usefulness had a positive effect on user's intention to use ERP, while perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use affected attitude positively. Computer self-efficacy had direct effect both on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, and indirect effects on intention to use ERP. Training was found to have a strong positive direct effect on perceived ease of use, and indirect effect on perceived usefulness, attitude, and intention to use respectively. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.
