A brief resume of the status of the Mnemiopsis population in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea according to observations during the first half of 2002

A critical situation has arisen in the Caspian ecosystem, in particular in its pelagic zone as a result of an invasion by Mnemiopsis leidyi in 1998-1999. The situation resembles that in the Azov-Black Seas, but with an even more rapid effect.
