A new method for correcting over-compositing effects in oversampled volume ray casting visualization is introduced. The method follows a generalized voxel-by-voxel strategy that, unlike the well-known classic [1,2] approach, does not assume dataset homogeneity. The method uses a voxel averaging strategy. It also incorporates a computational simplification mechanism that allows fast performance in serial processing environments. The simplification mechanism is also applicable to another existing method, the Correct-to-First [3] method. The performance of the method is exhibited and compared with the existing opacity corrections using real data.
