In spite of the lack of information on striped jack reproductive behaviour in nature, Rowling & Raines (2000) established that complete maturation occurs at a fork length of 26-28 cm and observed fecundities of 30 000-220 000 eggs for 23-27 pm fish. They are usually synchronous spawners, releasing eggs in small batches at intervals over a long spawning period. Literature about striped jack early life history is limited to one study on embryonic and larval development (Kawabe et al., 1991) and the effect of water temperature on embryonic development (Murai et al., 1987). This study describes the embryonic development stages of striped jack eggs in captivity.
