The positive effect of the addition of microalgae to the rearing environment (green water technique) on growth and survival of marine fish larvae has been widely reported, in different species such as turbot (Scott and Middleton, 1979; Reitan et al.,1993), halibut (Naas et al., 1992) and sea bass (Cahu et al., 1998). Different hypothesis have been pointed out to explain this effect. Cahu et al. (1998) suggest that microalgae may improve the digestive functions of larvae at both pancreatic and intestinal level, particularly by means of triggering the digestive enzyme production. The objective of this study is to provide a better understanding of larval digestive physiology and to determine the effect of the green water technique in the development of digestive enzymes in sea bream (Spams auratd).
