Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and a pH sensitive chromoionophore were immobilized together in a sol-gel matrix. Using acetylcholine chloride as a substrate, the optical response of the film at wavelengths 635nm and 542 nm were studied. Immobilized of the chromoionophore in sol-gel shows response towards pH change and free enzyme reaction. A calibration curve for the substrate AchE was obtained at a range of 0.073M to 1.006M. A good linearity in the range of 0.26 to 0.87M (R{sup}2= 0.9656) was obtained and the lowest detection limit was 0.26M of AChCl.
