At present, there are no standardized guidelines for vertically extrapolating wind data in hilly terrain. Considerable errors in wind speed, energy yield and financial calculations are common. This study addresses a need to examine methods of vertical extrapolation used in hilly terrain found in the Cork/Kerry region. This paper introduces an attempt to more clearly define the performance envelope of vertical extrapolation equations by comparing various methods of same at four sites. Existing results and recommendations for the continuation of research are presented.
