Simulations based on CA data keep gaining relevance during the development process of new products. Nevertheless their final verification is done by building hardware mock ups. Before the start of physical mock ups several questions arise, e.g. is the part list complete or are most of the parts checked in simulations. PDM systems including both the structure of virtual products and the part lists are still under development. Their introduction in enterprises will take a long time. From this follows that we have to map the part list view of the new product and its virtual representation. Doing this one has to take into acount a lot of special cases resulting from different philosophies which are implemeted in traditional part list systems and modem PDM systems. We implemented a tool based on Microsoft Access which creates several sets showing the inconsistencies between virtual product and part list. Some portions of the entries have to be discussed with the appropriate business units. The people responsible for the physical mock ups really need this kind of comparison to ensure that parts used in prototypes correspond to the parts simulated in Digital Mock Ups.
