The appraised results of safety toxicology showed that the mycelia powder was safe for taking orally, nonpoisonous in reality: without any harmful effects and free from side effects to the growth of SD rats and any effects of pathological changes and causing mutation, and the lethal dosage (LD50) in Kunming mice was more than 20g/kg by orally. It also showed that the weight of tumor S-180 and tumor H-22 were lower than normal control obviously, when Kunming mice were given orally with mycelia powder in different dose (3g/kg, 1g/kg, 0.33g/kg of body weight), and this effect raising in a dose- dependent manner. Among them, it displayed a suppressive rate of 34.8%~39.7% for tumor S-180 and 32.5%~37.7% for tumor H-22 by taking HD (3g/kg weight). Moreover, both murine (BALB/C mice) peritoneal macrophage phagocytosis and (BALB/C mice) spleen natural-killer-cells activity were higher than normal control obviously (P<0.01, P<0.05). From the above results, it was considered that the mycelia powder were safe and nonpoisonous and free from side-effect for taking orally, while it were displayed tumor suppressive activity and immunomodulating activity. It was considered that the mycelia powder was accorded completely with the demands of health protection food (functional food).
