We have developed a novel therapy for the restoration of functional ambulation following incomplete spinal cord injury (1SCI) that incorporates partial weightbearing therapy (PWBT) and epidural spinal cord stimulation (ESCS). In this study, we present results with this combination therapy applied in an ASIA C incomplete paraplegic subject. Analysis of (i) partial-support treadmill gait and (ii) walker-assisted overground ambulation revealed a dramatic improvement in ambulatory function with PWBT. In comparing gait performance with and without ESCS, we observed a significant ESCS-induced increase in electromyograpic activity, particularly on the weaker left limb. Functionally, ESCS improved leg extension, weight acceptance, and weight bearing unilaterally.
