Risk Management or Failure Avoidance

The term risk management is becoming increasingly familiar in New Zealand today, but the term is somewhat ambiguous so I wish to clarify my focus by using the term failure avoidance to describe an uncommon approach to achieving success in almost any field of endeavour. Management fads come and go in the modern world, but even allowing for an increased emphasis on "risk management" in New Zealand over the last few years, I do not see this as a fad. It is a fundamental building block for any successful enterprise in much the same way that Quality Assurance is.
