Sub Liquidus Casting (SLC): Process Concept And Product Properties

SLC (sub-liquidus casting) is a novel new slurry approach to semi solid metal processing that was first introduced at the AFS Casting Congress of 2002 in Kansas City. The method is simple yet it differs significantly from better-known liquid and semi solid casting processes, thus clear explanation of concept fundamentals and mechanisms is in order and is provided herein. Mechanical properties of two SLC cast parts and alloys have been determined and compared to similar products manufactured by traditional billet SSM, by squeeze casting and by permanent mold.
