Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Development, early 1997 the research project to develop a prototype for the automatic marking of areas - specifically for marking stand areas in fair halls - was started. The main objective was to develop a prototype to meet the following conditions: Importation of CAD-plans designed by planners into new firmware; Positioning of an object-oriented distance measuring instrument; Positioning of the so called plot-cart that is battery operated; Wireless contact between measuring instrument and plot-cart; controlled positioning of the plot-cart through computer display and permanent dialog between the user, i.e., plot - cart, and the measuring instrument; Points to be marked be found by following an optimized route based on the computed results Points are then marked by coloured material that is soluble in cold water.
