Arizona agdata: using peer-to-peer computer technology to share community agricultural data

As production agriculture moves increasingly toward precision farming, the many uses of the data that is generated for and by this practice are only beginning to be realized. Users of agricultural data in Arizona are becoming more familiar with GIS,GPS, and other technologies. Now they are discovering new uses for their data including sharing it in community-based collaborations with their neighbors, as well as other stakeholders. This spread of this technology and the data it generates has been stymied by its sophistication. But information technology also offers tools that can render data more accessible to the non-technical - peer-to-peer and visualization are at the heart of these tools. This paper will demonstrate uses for agricultural data that feed back into community shared applications or concerns, such as insect spraying or cross pollination.
