Hyperbranched polymers belong to a polymer family called dendritic polymers, which have caused great attention recently due to their unique chemical and physical properties. They can be used in the fields of coatings, additives, drugs and gene delivery, macromolecular building blocks, nanotechnology and supramolecular science potentially. Various hyperbranched polymers have been synthesized such as hyperbranched polyphenylene, hyperbranched polyester, hyperbranched polyether, hyperbranched polyaniline, hyperbranched polyacrylane using single-monomer methodology and double monomer methodology. However, it was reported that only a kind of hyperbranched polymers had been commercialized presently, which were aliphatic hyperbranched polyesters produced by Perstorp, Sweden, under the trade name as Boltorn Hx. Here, x means the different generations in the molecular structures. The detailed content can be found elsewhere. In this paper, the commercial hyperbranched aliphatic polyesters were blended with poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) as processing additives for the first time.
