Amphiphilic AB diblock copolymers undergo self-assembly in aqueous solution in order to minimize energetically unfavorable hydrophobe-water interactions. This results in the formation of various morphologies such as spherical micelles, worm-like micelles or vesicles, depending on the relative volume fraction of the core-forming block. In principle, systematic variation of the mean degree of polymerization of each block allows fine control over the morphology that is formed in aqueous solution.
