The coupling of functional lipid bilayers to solid substrates has been a widely studied topic in recent years.A supported membrane was first used to investigate cellular immune responses;many other studies on fundamental biophysical phenomena have been followed.The possibility of combining artificial membranes and natural membrane proteins on technologically relevant substrates has also been explored to create a novel class of biosensors.
