Saccharide on the cell surfaces play important roles in the life systems, such as cell–cell communication, immune response, pathogen invasion, and cancer metastasis. Because saccharide–protein interactions regulate life phenomena, a better understanding of saccharide functions would greatly aid in the elucidation of life phenomena, and hence, diagnosis and detection of disease and pathogens. The saccharide–protein interaction is a prominent tool for biosensing and proteome. Consequently, development of sensitive analytical tools for the saccharide protein interaction is needed. In relation to novel analytical tools, conjugation of biomacromolecules with metal nanoparticles is paid great interest due to the unique physical and chemical characteristics of the conjugates.
