Hybrid macromolecules containing synthetic polymers and peptidic segments are attractive entities for biomedical applications due to their integrated properties resulting from the constituent building blocks. On the one hand, the synthetic polymer can be easily prepared in large quantities with varying chemical compositions, controlled molecular weight, molecular architectures, microscopic morphologies and mechanical properties. On the other hand, peptides can be designed to exhibit defined biological functions and easily prepared using the standard solid phase peptide synthesis. The strategic combination of synthetic polymers and peptides in a hybrid system offers great potentials to construct modular materials with tunable biological properties.
