Sol–gel chemistry provides an easy, cost-effective and efficient way to incorporate inorganic components into organic binders and produce hybrid coatings having unique properties. This technology, if properly formulated, will produce transparent, hard and stable coatings with improved thermal and mechanical properties. Glycidyl carbamate (GC) chemistry contains carbamate functionality and epoxy reactivity. The technology has the potential of combining polyurethane (PU) and epoxy properties into a single system. GC oligomers also reduce isocyanate toxicity during application. In this work, sol-gel hybrid moisture cured films were prepared using glycidyl carbamate resin and amine functional silane precursors. The hybrid networks were characterized using different instruments such as FTIR, DSC, TGA and AFM. The mechanical properties of the hybrid films were also evaluated. Finally, a structure-property correlation was given based on the obtained experimental observations.
