The conversion of solar energy into a more usable form of energy is an important and attractive area of study.Two processes are generally involved in converting solar energy into a"storable"form.They are the photoinduced charge separation that occurs within a short excitation time and the subsequent reactions of these separated charges,governed by catalysts,etc.to give products.Generally,the catalysts are fixed in place and arranged so that they react in some sequence.While many monomeric and polymeric systems have been studied for their ability to be used in solar energy collection,they maximum efficiency for charge separation is less than attained by naturally occurring polymeric porphyrins during photosynthesis.
