Apart from the optimization of commonly used cutting methods, the Institute of Agricultural Machinery Sciences and Fluid Power of the Technical University of Braunschweig is also investigating new, "alternative" cutting techniques. With the help of a matrix all conceivable cutting-systems can be categorized. As a result from the matrix of cutting techniques, the well-known procedures laser and waterjet cutting are also considered interesting for the application in agricultural engineering. However, due to detailed preliminary experiments waterjet cutting can be preferred to laser cutting. An application for this project was submitted to the German Research Council (DFG) and the funding has already been granted. Currently, a test stand is been constructed to investigate the possibilities of waterjet cutting.
