Wine grapes: outlook to 2005-06

Total Australian wine grape production is projected to reach 1.7 million tonnes by 2005-06, underpinned by red grape production rising by 51 per cent to reach over 1 million tonnes. Exports of Australian wine are projected to more than double in thefive years to 2005-06 to reach 682 million litres. Maintaining returns from wine will depend on adjustment to product lines to meet changing consumer preference, continued efforts to achieve and hold market share, and further industry rationalisation tocreate efficiencies in production and distribution.
