This essay studies how to determine economical and reasonable options in building pit support on the premise of safety, according to geological conditions, peripheral circumstances & depth of building pit, and construction requirements as well. This essay illustrates that safety of building pit is classified into three grades referring to effect caused by unstable building pit. Grade 1 refers to serious instability effect, i. e. social influence is greatly bad and (or) economic loss exceeds building pit support expense. Grade 2 indicates average instability effect; economic loss caused by which can be acceptable and/or be remedied in time, no bad social influence occurred. Grade 3 means slight instability effect that is easily to deal with, even requiring no treatment. This essay also presents out that, for one same building pit, different support options may be adopted in order to achieve the same safety grade and the cost shall be accordingly different. The writers introduce max-minimum decision criterion into selecting building pit support options, which obtains significant economic and social benefits. Meanwhile, the essay describes several points for attention in applying the method.
