The NSF grant DMI 9713727 provides funding for the study of batch production environments with random yield. In these environments, products are produced in batches because either setup times or setup costs between product types are significant. Furthermore, the output from production is assumed to be highly variable. Such systems may be found in industrial environments such as machining, painting, or semiconductor fabrication. This report summarizes results obtained for managing systems with setups and random yield in a continuous time environment. In particular, we assume that the system is managed using a cyclic base-stock production system and we give analytic methods for setting the base-stock levels.
