Coherency Induced Optical Gain Without Population Inversion in Quantum Wells

Intense mid-IR laser pulses have been used to coherently "dress" the electronic levels in a quantum well intersubband transition. Optical gain is observed due to electromagnetically induced transparency for the first time in a solid.
