The direct oxidization of hydrocarbon fuels is achievable with properly developed Cu-CeCeO_2YSZ anodes.This can eliminate reformers in SOFC system and simplify system design with significantly reduced costs.Because samaria-doped ceria (SDC) has higher conductivity than that of YSZ at intermediate temperature,it has been used to prepare electrolyte-supported single cells for direct oxidation of butane fuel at 700 deg C.However,the SDC electrolyte was approx 380 mum thick,and a thinner SDC electrolyte would increase power densities and decrease cell-operating temperatures.
