Towards an Enterprise Approach for Training Simulation in the UK Ministry of Defence

In order to support an Enterprise Approach to training and simulation in the UK, under the Defence Training Systems and Infrastructure (DTSI) Capability Programme, work is progressing towards a DTSI Simulation and Centre (DSC). The DSC will drive the exploitation of off-the-shelf (OTS) technologies, gaming systems and standards-based interfaces in order to increase the UK's agility and adaptability delivering increased effectiveness and reduced costs. Whilst maintaining a baseline architecture, the DSC will provide a Single Point Of Access (SPOA) for UK defence purposes for selected simulation services and components, and be responsible for compliance testing against nominated simulation standards to promote interoperability. The DSC will also allow for component and software reuse and provide a mechanism for coherence and governance for UK simulation. This paper describes in more detail the approach to be taken and how benefits will be realised.
