This paper presents a new approach in making models of stitch forming devices in a blindstitch sewing machine. A mathematical model fo stitch forming devices is proposed. In this first part of the work a kinematical analysis using Denavit and Hartemberg's parameters is done. This model is not unique for the sewing machine but with slight modifications could be used to make analysis of multibody system with the same number of bodies. An optimal model for the impact of the needle with the fabric is proposed. To solve the problem, MATLAB computational software is used.
