Functional chromium plating chemistry capable of supporting up to at least 20 A/ft{sup}2 cathode current density while still giving state-of-the-art deposit quality has been developed. This chemistry has been coupled with equipment that is fully automated, environmentally almost zero discharge, compact in size and designed to sit on the main factory floor. Initial applications have been for shock absorbers, struts and gas spring applications. The process is now being modified to bring the same advantages to other applications.
