摘要

Side impact protection for children in child restraint systems (CRS) is a priority for injury mitigation. Previous research demonstrated that in oblique impacts, CRS side wings designed for head protection did not influence lateral head kinematics. This work extends that research by evaluating the potential for head impact for a center-seated forward-facing CRS (FFCRS) restrained occupant by including a potential impact structure simulating an intruded door. Nine oblique sled tests were conducted with a FFCRS and Q3s ATD. Lateral head excursion led to head contact with the simulated door in seven of nine tests including all tests without a tether.
