Child Safety Restraint Study: A Study of the Effects of Child Safety Restraint Legislation on the Incidence and Severity of Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries to Children Six Years of Age and Younger (Based on 1980-1982 and 1984-1985 Accidents)

The study was undertaken to determine the effects of motor vehicle occupant safety restraint laws in New York State on the accident experiences of children 0 to 6 years of age. Restraints have had the most effect in preventing head injuries which constituted over 80 percent of all injuries to these children. Mandatory safety restraint laws have demonstrated their value in protecting children against some of the dangers of motor vehicle travel.
