The performance of a heat pump (rated capacity: 250W) which adopts flat-plate collectors of the total area of 1.9m{sup}2 and a finned tube collector arranged either in series or in parallel was investigated analytically. The COP of the heat pump in the two cases was compared in summer and winter. The convective heat transfer coefficient of the finned tube collector was large so that the collector area of about 0.5m{sup}2 was enough to increase the COP at the wind velocity of 2m/s. In the summer, series running was better than parallel running. In the winter, series running was better when the solar radiation intensity was between 100 and 600W/m{sup}2.
