The plant (10) has focal line collectors (30, 34) e.g. parabolic-trough collector, provided with an extension in a longitudinal direction, in which a heat carrier medium i.e. water, is heated. The collectors of each group (28a-28c, 32a-32c) are connected in series and parallel with respect to a guiding direction of the medium. The collectors (30) exhibit different geographical orientation in their longitudinal direction in comparison to that of the collectors (34). A distribution device (18) produces partial flows of the medium for the group (28a-28c). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a solar thermal power plant.
