This work presents an expert system prototype that integrates concepts from Design Methodology, Artificial Intelligence, Object-Oriented Modeling and Hydraulic System Design, developed as a research project using CLIPS, the project had intensive validation by industrial and academic experts. The development applied INTERNET technologies for knowledge harvesting and user interface. The paper discusses the relevance of hydraulic systems for maintenance of industrial equipment, following by a description of the prototype. Finally, it focuses on how maintainability was dealt with in the prototype present stage and aspect of expansion based on interaction with industrial sector.
